Malbec

Malbec has become more popular in the past decade, however it is still a fairly rare varietal to produce on its own in the Napa Valley.  We only produce a few hundred cases for our club members to taste the distinct difference from our Cabernet Sauvignon, and to get an idea of what it lends to our blends Dedication and Family Cuvee.

VARIETAL PERCENTAGE: 94% Malbec, 3% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Cabernet Franc.

AGE OF VINES AND SOIL TYPE: 24‐32 year old vines planted in deep volcanic soils at a 2000′ elevation.

DATE PICKED: 9/20/16

AVERAGE HARVEST SUGAR: 25.7 degrees Brix

AVE. FERMENTATION TIME/TEMPERATURE RANGE: 7 days, 68-90 F

FERMENTATION CONTAINER/MACERATION: Open fermentation in small containers, punched down twice a day.

ANALYSIS AT BOTTLING

Alcohol: 14.1% pH: 3.88 TA: 6.1 g/L VA: 0.52 g/L R.S.: Dry

LENGTH/TYPE OF AGING: 33 months in 60 gal Oak barrels: 45% new French Oak, 55% 2–3 year old French Oak.

BOTTLED: 2/25/19

APPROXIMATE LIFESPAN (under proper cellar conditions): 12‐15 years.

VINTAGE AND WINEMAKER’S NOTES: Distinctly Malbec, the bold cherry, plum, strawberry, and pomegranate Flavors burst from the nose and continue to fill a rich, lengthy mouthfeel with mocha, cherry cola, fennel, and sasparilla. its velvety entry resolves with a juicy, mouth‐watering acidity.  A crispy duck, or seafood paella will really make it sing.

VINTAGE AND WINEMAKER’S NOTES: We are excited to present our fifth vintage of our Estate Malbec.  This varietal embraces our 2000’ elevation terroir, and stands out as exceptionally vibrant.  The aromas of the 2015 burst with pomegranate concentrate, blueberry, blackberry, violets, and a hint of chocolate on the finish; the mouthfeel is intense, juicy, balanced:  distinctly Malbec.
