Montaire

Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker Andy Schweiger created the Single Vineyard Select program to showcase the diversity of our Spring Mountain estate.  Montaire is sourced from a single vineyard block of Cabernet Sauvignon next to the family home.  This block is in a microclimate of its own, as it is essentially a divet in our hilly terroir.  This allows the vineyard pocket to collect soil sedement and nutrients, along with the ability to hold onto some fog when it reaches our 2,000 ft elevation.

We offer one additional Single Vineyard Cabernet, and that is our Gate Block.

Vintages Available : 2014 while it lasts

Our estate vineyard is very uniquely situated in the Napa Valley. Nestled at the highest peak of the Spring Mountain District, our Cabernet Sauvignon is the highest elevation planted in our appellation. As winemaker, I wanted to make a wine truly expressive of our our vineyard site. Our Assistant Winemaker suggested the latin root Montare, suggestive of climbing and being the peak of the mountain. We took that name one step further; many visitors reflect on how clean and pure the air is here…resulting in “Montaire”

VINTAGE AND WINEMAKER’S NOTES: We predict this wine will only be making a brief appearance ‐ and most likely exclusively to wine club members. Quite possibly one of the loveliest wines to have come from our original 8‐acre (previously Legacy) block. This parcel is located in front of Fred and Sally’s house, where the vineyard makes a dip, and the soil nutrients settle into the bowl, and the fog is held onto slightly longer than the rest of the property. These softer soils make for rounder tannins, with a layered strawberry rhubarb, lavender primrose entry, cocoa berry mid pallet, and an elegant, spicy finish.

VINTAGE AND WINEMAKER’S NOTES:  Our inaugural release of Montaire possesses a jammy nose of blackberry, blueberry and casis with a sweet and supple entry with a soft velet mouth feel with full blackberry and cherry components with highlights of blueberry and pomegranate. The finish lingers in the mouth with focused tannins and balanced fruit and acidity.
