A great opportunity to sample Schweiger's history, and the unique characteristics of our Cabernet, grown on our estate on Spring Mountain.

Vintage and Winemaker's notes:

Those of you familiar with our wines know that our previous Cabernet release (2001) was the beginning of a brave new world for us as we extended our barrel aging program to further soften and round out our full mountain fruit.  We continue that “tradition” (we’ve done it twice now…that qualifies as tradition) with the release of our 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon.  The 2002 vintage required much patience, but was well worth the wait (there’s nothing like crushing on Halloween!).   100% Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2004 vintage of Schweiger Cabernet Sauvignon marks a new progression in our Cabernet program.  With Fred’s blessing, Andy has begun carefully experimenting with blending small amounts of our classic Merlot into our Cabernet Sauvignon to further express the beautiful fruit of our Spring Mountain Estate.  The 2004 vintage came in hot, hard, and fast with beautifully intense fruit flavors.  97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot

2005 was one of the best growing years in recent history.  A long mild spring and summer gave the grapes plenty of time to soak in the sun and develop intense flavors and tanins typical of great mountain Cabernet.  For our efforts, we have been rewarded with a rich, full-bodied Cabernet, deep in color.  The sweet, supple entry crescendos into a deeply intense middle; followed by a pleasant, lingering finish.  96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot

2006 was a remarkably long growing season with occasional heat spikes followed by cooler days.  To help round out the wine, we continued our traditional extended barrel aging program; not to give the wine more oak or vanilla characters, but to give the wine more time in the micro-aerative environment of the barrel to enhance tannin polymerization.   The wine is lively with essences of dark berries, plum, dark chocolate,  and toasty oak with a velvety finish.  96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot
